Lately it seems B&M's (mostly) have began to become smaller. With the exeption of Tatsu, all B&M's that have been built on a smaller scale.
2006 Goliath (175 foot drop compared to most 200+) Goliath @ Laronde (do I even need to explain) Black Mamba (very small and compact) Patriot (not as small but not massive by any means)
2005 Hydra (very small with 110 foot drop)
It just seems like some parks are downsizing a bit. Any thoughts?

I don't think small is a bad thing, especially if the ride packs intensity. One problem that parks are always going to face is the limitations of their land, so a smaller coaster that is high quality is often a good choice.

I like taller rides a lot because I really like nice long drops. However, Vortex at PGA has an awesome layout, and it's only about 90 feet tall!

Yeah, taller (usually) is better.

But the two aren't mutually exclusive. SheiKra has one of the best drops I've ever experienced and it has a rather small footprint.

^But imagine how it would be if it were the same; only add 2 seconds on to it!

Oh I know, I'd love to see a 300+ foot dive machine some day, although it would scare me to death because I'm afraid of heights

Yeah, me too, but I think B&M has a policy not to build above 250ft. or something weird like that.
300ft. Straight Down... Sweet!

I wonder why they don't make most coasters have a vertical, or close to vertical drop. I mean, they can do it on X and that coaster has big trains! It doesn't seem like it would have any problems...hmmm..

1) B&M said that they will not build over 299 feet. Just to clear that up. 2) SheiKra's first drop DOES in fact reach 90*, and the 2nd reaches 87*. Just to clear that up, too. But it would be cool if B&M built higher than Silver Star at 240 feet --Tyler

Yeah, but I have a feeling they'll stick to their guidelines. But hey, you never know!!

Yeah, but a park gets what they want from a company. They don't call a company to have them do what they want. I think that it's just a coincidence that smaller coasters have been built lately. I mean it can't be a new policy, or Tatsu might not have been built the way it was.
But of course the company has it's own guidelines, but the park would request within the company's guidelines.

^Ahh, you beat me to it. You must understand that the coaster is built around what the park wants more than what the company wants. Like he said, there are going to be certain guidlines to what the company will do, but the park will give them the basic idea and budget, and the company will dish something out, and the park will approve it. Then it goes through all of the technical stuff.
Also like mattjackson said, it is most likely a coincedence.

Yeah, I see that now, especially after watching Super Coasters.
