The day started out with me waking up early in the morning and making the short trip to my friend’s house. There I waited for some of my friends relatives to show up, and then we were off. My friend’s family is from Brazil so they spoke Portuguese the whole two hour drive to SFStL. With my limited Spanish vocabulary, I picked out words and phrases to try and figure out what they were saying. It was thee only thing to do to keep me occupied. Finally, we got to the park. We arrived about 30mins prior to opening, which was good because Stephanie’s (my friend) family needed to buy tickets. We waited at the gate for about 20mins and then the park opened. Stephanie and I went by ourselves straight to Batman:TR.
Batman The Ride/ Walk-on/ Back row- Stephanie had never ridden Batman anywhere but in the middle. I told her to ride the back and she was a bit nervous. Its been a while since I have ridden Batman, and there were a few things I had forgotten… 1- How damn forceful it is (especially in the back). 2- How loud it is! Anyways, Batman delivered as always- 10/10
Our theory was that we should ride all of the coasters (except Mr. Freeze which was down) before it started to get packed. Next we went to Ninja.
Ninja/ Walk-on/ Back seat- Stephanie said she had always ridden this in the front seat and I told her to ride it in the back seat because it gives major airtime. She agreed and ended up liking the back seat better than the front. I also showed her how to ride without head banging. She didn’t know it, but she was really learning a lot of coaster tid-bits from me. Ninja had great airtime in the back as always, but was a little rougher than I remember. Also, Ninja is in major need of a paint job. You can see the red paint coming through from when it was red! Overall, I still have a soft spot for my first looper- 7/10
Superman Tower of Power/ 5min wait- Stephanie was VERY persistent that she did NOT want to ride SToP, but I made her ride it and it was pure bliss. She loved it and I did too. The only thing is I wish the sensation lasted longer. Definitely a great addition to SFStL! 9/10
Screamin’ Eagle/ Walk-on/ Back seat (Blue train)- I had remembered from last year that the blue train on Eagle was faster, and the back seat had the best airtime. However, Eagle was not at all what I remembered it. We rode the back seat of the blue train and I got practically no airtime. Also, the ride seemed rougher than last year. The only improvements I found since last year was the new paint job, and the smoother stop into the final brakes. 7/10
Boss/ Walk-on/ Second-to-last car (back row)- Stephanie had never ridden Boss before and she really liked it. We did a cool pose for the camera and I bought the picture. Boss really isn’t that rough. Aside from the brutally under-banked turns, the ride has some good air and is pretty fun. 8/10
River King Mine Train/ Walk-on/ Very back seat- This ride is what it is and always will be: boring. All it is, is a bunch of lift hills, and a few helices. The only fun part of the ride is the slight airtime gotten in the back seat from the large drop into the tunnel, definitely a lackluster ride. 4.5/10
Excalibur/ Walk-on- This ride is, and always has been fun. The forces are cool and so id the view. The only thing I didn’t like was the stupid ride op trying to get everyone to play “Marco- Polo” while on the ride….STUPID! 7.5/10
The Log Flume/ 5min wait- Apparently, SFStL’s log flume got a new name this year (along with some new cheap looking signage). Wasn’t it Ice Mountain Splash last year? Anyhow, the ride was very boring and anti-climactic. 6/10
Batman The Ride/ Walk-on/ Front row- Not as forceful in the front, but still a great ride. 9/10
After this we walked over to Ninja, and as we entered the queue, we heard a loud BANG! When we got into the station, a foreign guy explained to me that they were having a computer problem and he didn’t know how long it would be. I stayed and talked with him about Ninja for a couple minutes and then decided to come back later.
Batman The Ride/ Walk-on/ Back row- I got tunnel vision after the first drop and throughout the loop this time…god I love the back seat! 10/10
Ninja/ Walk-on/ Back seat- Pretty much the same as the time we rode before… man I love that Vekoma airtime!
Superman Tower of Power/ 10min wait- This time the wait was longer, and once again Stephanie had to be dragged on the ride. However, she once again loved it, but swore to me she wouldn’t ride again. 9/10
After this we were waiting to meet up with Stephanie’s family to eat lunch, but we had some time so we decided to go to Screamin’ Eagle. When we got into the station we were next for the red train, but I wanted the blue train. We let some man and his daughter go in front of us. The red train progressed up the lift but the blue train wouldn’t budge out of the brake run. They stopped the red train on the lift and we waited for maintenance to come. They got the blue train to move and the red train finished its run. Just think, that could have been me stuck on the lift! Anyways, the crew said they had to test her for a while so we decided to go meet up with the rest of Stephanie’s family, we were out of time.
Superman Tower of Power/ 15min wait- This time Stephanie didn’t ride. 9/10
Next we ate Papa Johns.
The Boss/ Walk-on/ back seat- Stephanie didn’t ride this time since she had just eaten. And since I had no one next to me, on the turn coming back towards the MCBR, I was leaned all the way over with my head in the seat next to me from the forces. Anyway, it was a fun ride, nice air on the first drop. 8.5/10
After that, we decided to go to Hurricane Harbor.I was really disappointed in the line for Tornado, I have never ridden it all the times I have been to SFStL, and I was once again denied the…credit? Anyways, first I went to the wave pool. Then I went down the red speed slid. Then I went down the green speed slid (wow). Then I went down the turquoise, then red tube slide. Then, once more, I went into the (slippery) wave pool. After doing all of this, Hurricane Harbor became very boring and we went back into the park.
Batman The Ride/ Walk-on/ Front row- 9/10
Batman The Ride/ Walk-on/ Back row- 10/10
By the time we were leaving (around 6:00), I could see that SToP was running a different cycle. It was too bad as it looked more fun than the cycle I got to ride…oh well. After we left, we drove into downtown St. Louis and by the new Cardinals stadium. Then we went by the arch and headed back home. We stopped off at the Mid-Rivers mall exit and ate Olive Garden. After our delicious dinner, we headed all the way home.
Park operations were great all day. Batman was running two trains, Boss was running 2, Ninja was running 2, the mine train was running 2, Eagle was running 2, and all of the coasters had great operations (except Ninja). Batman and Boss had exceptionally great operations. There was some new park signage around the park. Also, Tidal Wave, Thunder River, and The Log Flume got new logos that looked as if they were made in Microsoft Word. There was something that looked like construction happening by Tidal Wave and SToP, maybe the location of the new coaster for 2007? I really hope its something big. SFStL really has been the SF park that hasn’t gotten any care in a while. Its kind of sad to see the best ride at a park be B:TR (even though it IS a great ride).
PICS!!
