Is this a good one or not?? I am (well I think) getting a camera for my birthday on July 15. It will be a Nikon COOLPIX L3 Digetal Camera. 5.1 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, 4x digetal zoom, 2" screen, In-camera red-eye fix detects and corrects for the red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash , and I get a free 256mb memory card all for $179.98!! Tell me what you guys think, and any advice will be greatly appriciated! ;D

Yeah, that's a pretty good choice. I looked at the reviews and they were pretty good, so you probably will be happy with it. Does it have movie mode?

Yes it does, and it also records audio!

^that's cool. If I were you, I would check out the movie mode if you think you are going to use it a lot. I have seen some cameras record horrible movies, and they wouldn't do so well if you plan to bring them on coasters.

Ah, I see. I think I'm gonna go check it out this weekend..maybe. But my mom's friend is a photographer and she said the camera is a great choice, for a first. This is the one she even baught her daugter, well not this one the 4mp one.

^Yeah it should be a good camera. 5.1 mp is pretty good. When I get a job, I want to go all out and buy a 700-900 dollar camera so I can go "professional". That way I can take AWESOME pictures! It will take a bit of saving up though, but with a job it will probably take a few months.

Phazan, I have a $700 camera, it doesn't take rapid shots, it's chunky yet still "personal", its videos are crap, and it takes forever to go from mode to mode.
It's probably cheaper now, my dad bought it in 2002.

^Well, I probably will shop a TON before I get it. Not all $700 are like that. I want a lot of manual settings so my pictures can come out really good. (Eg. Perfect light balance, good colors etc...) If I get a good camera I'm going to get more into photography and start taking it as a more serious hobby.

Yeah, I really wish that mine had adjustable settings...unfortunately, it doesn't even have the capability to turn flash off.

^ Well, it's hard to say. I have never came anywhere close to coming to the end of my 512mb even on my four day Disney Land trip. I can hold 600 something pictures on 4 mp setting and about 27 minutes of video. However, your camera will hold a little less (not much) than 600 something pictures when it is set on 5mp. So if the card is free, I would take the card and see how it works out and maybe later I would buy a bigger card. but if it gives you the choice of only paying like $10 more for a 512, I would do that.

My 128 megabyte camera holds about 1,300 640x480 pictures (and it's a LOT easier to have them at this size than to resize them), 600 1280x960 pictures, 100 "medium" quality pictures, 50 higher-quality pictures, and exactly 4 MASSIVE .tiff pictures. You definitely won't have trouble with the size of your card at 256 megs.

^Well it is easier to have your pictures at 1 mp if your just planning on using it for forums and email only. I use my pictures for everything, and if you ever want to crop them or blow them up, you won't have any quality. So if your ONLY using your pictures for forums it would be best to keep your camera at 1 mp. But 7.2 mp will give good sharpness to your pictures. That camera looks like it's pretty good if your willing to spend the extra money. And with all the sharpness you could crop your pictures later and you won't loose much qaulity. This camera looks like an overall better camera for the money difference. But it is always best IMO for anything expensive (like a camera) to actually go down to a store and try it out. Trying cameras out when I was shopping for mine, actually made me find mine. I saw one in an ad and when I went to Best Buy to see it, I saw the camera that was advertised and decided it wasn't for me. But then I saw another one and I was like "Oh! That one is cool!" so, I got that one! I have a Kodak C330 by the way.

Well guys, I ended up getting a better camera than those two! I just went to Sears today a pre-ordered a Sony Cybershot (something something) lol That is a 6.0 mp 3x zoom, but takes night pictures clearly! And the video mode is awesome! ;D
