I don't know if you've heard about it, but Jena 6 has caused alot of uproar down here in the south. Here's the extensive story: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jena_SixHere's the "basic" story without some minor events. Some white kids jumped a black kid at a party, he suffered several injuries. White kids get 1 day of OSS. Black kids go and beat up one of the white kids, they're being charged with attempted murder. (the white kid was able to return to school the next day) Same "crime". Two different punishments. White kids - 1 day of OSS. Black kids - a whole list of charges including attempted murder. It's pretty obvious what's going on here... Some of you might know, but I have a no tolerance when it comes to racism... I mean its crazy how much of it is still around. Especially down here. So in honor of the event, today you were to wear black in support of equality. I'd say about one third of our school was wearing black today, it was cool. One note, I'm not saying there should have been no punishment, but if you're going to charge one group with attempted murder then you need to charge the other group as well.

I wish I had known about this before today. I just heard about it earlier...if I had known, I would've worn black, no doubt.
It's ridiculous how stuff like this still happens. At least there's one judge fighting against the racist one.
The trial was today, correct? Has it ended yet?

I just heard about this today and I completely agree with you John. The theme at our school was wearing black shirts and tags that say "Free the Jena Six."

I heard a little thing about it on the news, but other than that story, I didn't hear anything else about it. I don't know ALL the details on this, but if it is how it sounds, it definitely irritates me.

Yeah my parents were, needless to say, furious that this happened. I don't live in the South, (I'm in Jersey) but my parents remind me on a daily basis not to take anything that even resembles anything dangerous out of the house. It's not like they need to , but the way things are happening now, they think I really need to keep a conscious mind of myself.
