Every year everybody on my mom's side of the family gets together in some hillbilly pavillion park in Banner, MS and eats and talks about stuff.
This year they moved it to a house in Oxford, MS because there are alot of newborns and it was pretty hot so it all worked out.
I hadn't been to Oxford in over a year so it was great to be back.
But gotta get the sad stuff out of the way first.
My grandpa, Jerry "Pa" Johnson fought a hard, long 4-year battle with cancer.
But he's in a better place now. He was an awesome grandpa, he was good friends with Elvis' dad (they lived behind Graceland) and helped out alot with the Zippin Pippin and the Carousel, see why it means alot to me?
We had to go and put some new flowers and trim it up a bit.
Now onto happier stuff - in the middle of Oxford is "The Square", it's their downtown.
The town was built upon one of the most "hilly" areas in the state, so you'll be driving along and there's a 40 foot steep hill, it's awesome, especially for a first timer to see their face.
There's lots of churches spread throughout the town.
Oxford is growing like crazy - it's not a hidden secret anymore. Having been gone for a year it was a totally new place to me in some parts of the town.
Ole Miss... only if you had an architecture program.
Fast forward to family reunion.
FOOD.
They had alot of pictures there - here's one of my grandpa's football team - he's on the front row, far left.
He forged his age by two years so he could go over and fight the war.
He was an awesome person.
Yeah, I want a pumpkin.
How you gonna live a few yards from Ole Miss and have an Auburn flag... you used to teach there? Iight.
"Don't be hatin with the flashes!" says Adison.
"Yeah, I know I'm beautiful - what you gonna do?"
My grandma can put any baby to sleep with her rocking/humming.
Time to leave.... (finally)
It's awesome how they turned their backyard into a parking lot.
AWESOME. They got a Office Depot! Now I can get those pocket protecters I've been needing.
Thanks for reading.
