See, that's the thing I don't all agree with. Coasters are supposed to roar, it builds up the anticipation. I'm not sure making them quiet (and they can get very quiet) is doing the right thing. And it's not like CP has neighbors who don't want the noise, since their neighbor is water. But that's just my opinion.

Now that you mention it, it seems like it should be loud. Like a stampede of horses or something.

The launch will sound cool, like all the other intamins. Storm Runners was so cool souding, it was loud, and very intimidating

^It will probably be nearly silent. Why? Well, the launch for one is in a tunnel, second, it uses LSMs instead of a hydraulic launch which is significantly quieter.

But remember, the LSMs and LIMs do create that screeching sound, which, in my mind, sounds pretty cool anyways.

^Not all of them. V2 at SFMW is VERY loud when it launches. Superman:The Escape at SFMM, doesn't make a loud screech. It has a different sound that doesn't make much noise.

I love the sound of Storm Runner's launch, and any other launch for that matter. Toning a ride's noise down is semi-butchering it, it takes away from the experience and the build-up before you ride.
Can you tell? I love the B&M Roar!

^Thats why I was really let down when I was in line for Patriot, I wanted the roar and it just wasnt there. You couldnt even hear it going right over your head! I can understand sound-proofing a ride that is in a residential area, but not a ride at CP. Look at Raptor and Mantis, they're loudest B&M's I've heard! So why make Mavvie quiet?

ps- Just as a guess for why they are making Mavvie quiet, it is right next to a petting zoo, maybe it would spook the animals?

Eh, I doubt it, I bet they'd just move the petting zoo rather than dump money into sound-proofing it.
Remember, this is Cedar Fair, L.P. err... "Entertainment"

In the video of Maverick when the train goes throught the launch tunnel, it makes the same noise as Storm Runner. (I think its recorded) But anyways, if it does make the noise, it will attract more riders IMO. When I went to Hershey the sound of the launch mixed with the screams made me want to jump in line at the very second.

^That and the fact that SR goes really high and fast...lol!
I don't think they should take away the roar...but I guess it's not my choice, huh? Maybe they're doing it for the "family" aspect of the ride? Maybe they figure that the roar would instill fear into the children that are going to attempt a ride?
I dunno, I thought that was what a coaster was supposed to do...lol!

That's another thing that's getting on my nerves - advertising these huge rides as "family" attractions. A 65 mph launch was probably more intense than most coasters I've ever been on. So that's why I don't see a 70 mph launch as a "family" launch. I mean, Powderkeg was pushing it but, hey, it's Herschend so it's all good.
All I'm saying is something like this shouldn't be advertised as a family attraction, IMO.

^^That's what I was thinking. I've been around tons of kids in line who are very scared of the roar of the coaster. I wonder what it will sound like though. A weird sound like Batman or something? Or just a typical coaster sound?

^I fear that it may sound like absolutely nothing. They are getting quite effective nowadays at silencing coasters and while I hope they keep it somewhat loud, I believe it will be nearly silent.

Looking at that airtime hill gives me the chills. I can imagine it now, just floating throught the air, then turning into the corks/sidewinders (what ever you wanna call them) and being sucked into your seat. Then the brakes, darkness, and LAUNCH!!!!!!!!
